A LOUGHBOROUGH ARTS COLLECTIVE

MEGAN TIPPING

My practice is about the encounter with a stranger. I work using black and white photography to make portraits of individuals previously unknown to me. The process of acquiring participants and building the friendship and trust necessary for the honesty and vulnerability I seek in a photograph is incredibly interesting. Through telephone conversations or face to face meetings I explain my project to each individual before we arrange to meet for the actual photo-shoot, this is crucial to the success of each session and ultimately each photograph made. My brief requires each person to consider how they would like to present themselves: to question who they are, how they believe they are perceived by others and to communicate something of themselves through the image.
